I just learned this news today, from a guy I just hired a few weeks ago and discovered yesterday that we were both on JWN years ago. I haven't posted in a while, but needed to come back just to say how sad I was to learn of Eric's passing...OOMPA, you will be and are missed, and I am sorry you had so much pain.

Brownfield remediation plan under study at Watchtower Farms property
SHAWANGUNK – Three parcels of land in the Town of Shawangunk totaling just under seven acres are being studied for possible brownfields remediation. The parcels, owned by Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc., are part of over 1,100 acres.
The investigation is estimated to take about 20 weeks to complete under the supervision of the state departments of Environmental Conservation and Health. According to the DEC, in the past, some of the areas of the land were reportedly used to deposit soil, construction debris, and other materials.
It is also reportedly a site where 55 gallon drums of materials containing chemicals thought to have been used in the printing industry, including a petroleum hydrocarbon distillate, were deposited in predominantly clay soil. In one of the three parcels, there is a potentially contaminated soil from the spills of printing wastes or raw materials on the ground and aerated using farm machinery, the DEC said.
Prior to the 1960s, the land was used for farming and orchards.
The cleanup plan will include an evaluation of the proposed site remedy, or recommend a no-action or no-further-action alternative. The goal of the plan is to ensure the protection of public health and the environment.
I had to lookup what brownfields are... it's an EPA term for properties that have contamination.

the last i heard was the society built another kingdom hall.
what ever happened to those in the congregation that sued the society?

Wow, in what has to be the strangest coincidence ever, I was chatting with my new co-worker after work today, and he grew up in Bonham. He brought up "living next door to the guy who ran the Kingdom Hall"... he had quite a few insights into this whole situation. The PO lived next door, was good friends with his family (the PO taught him how to ride a bike!). Earlier in the conversation, before I heard "Bonham", he said that the PO let the Girl Scouts hold their weekly meetings in a rented room at the Kingdom Hall; my first reaction--and I told him so--is that he must be mistaken, as Witnesses would NEVER rent their facililty to the Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts, nor allow their kids to join those organizations. When he mentioned Bonham as the city, "ding", the light went on. Not sure about the veracity of the Girl Scouts' meetings story, but I have no reason to doubt my co-worker's knowledge of the events.

by Simon inyes, that's right, they really do not like people being able to read that book so they wanted links to it removed (it appears they have also been going after the hosts of the content itself as well).. unfortunately, i had to removed the links (which were dead anyway when i checked) and i'd ask that people don't re-post them (sorry).

The legislator, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea."
To which the little girl replied, as she started to re-open her book, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss global warming or universal health care when you don't know sh!t?!"
